My research focuses on major evolutionary shifts in plant photosynthetic metabolism and how these shifts can serve as general models for the evolution of complex traits. To understand the evolution of photosynthesis and stress responses, my research spans multiple scales: from single-cell sequencing of individual species to developing bioinformatic tools for phenotyping and comparison across all plants.

Evolution of photosynthesis and stress response

Photosynthetic "omics"

Untangling the genomics and gene regulation underlying photosynthetic adaptations.

Phylogenomics

Developing and applying new methods to reconstruct the histories of lineages.

Comparative biology

Analyzing trait diversity and interactions to understand how complex phenotypes arise.
